How about a nice piece of Perk
The Brockton Enterprise has a nice little piece on Perk. Not much new here, but we do get a ten day warning on the big man’s birthday. Here’s a hint folks, he takes a 3X in t-shirts.

The games begin tonight…
Chicago vs. Miami — Look for Big Ben to make his Chi-town debut, will it be everything they hoped for?
Phoenix vs. L.A. Lakers – New look Nash, Amare and the rest of the second most exciting team in the league.
Games are on TNT, and you know
Kim Jong Il will be watching.
Now, please rise for the singing of the national anthem…

On this the eve of the regular season– for the Celtics at least, the regular season actually starts tonight– conventional wisdom from conventional writers is available in spades. However, as we like to say here at the beast lair, “conventional wisdom is just conventional bullshit.”
You will read how the Celtics will be terrible this year, especially if you look at the national news sources; brain killers like ESPN’s garbage of a power rankings, or if you are a lover of
USA yesterday’s news you will see that we get less love than a three legged cat with bad breath.
In fact, even our local boys are showing some signs of conventional wisdom. Steve Bulpett as savvy a basketball scribe as you can find, wonders if we can do anything other than run real fast. And then of course there’s Peter May, oh wait, who gives a shit what he thinks.
As for us, The Crack Staff at Perkisabeast.com, we are optimistic. We are optimistic that a team is more than just the sum of its players individual skills, rather it is a collection of individuals brought together by a single goal: victory.

We believe this team will gel and it will play hard every night, but even more we believe the team will play smart (ahem, maybe not Tony Allen).
We believe that Perk and Al will put it all together this year and become a frightening front line capable of changing a game, and how could you not given the fact that they are both 6-10, talented and under 22 years old?
We believe that having guys like Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak, and Ryan Gomes will always help you.
We believe that Paul Pierce will improve upon his stellar performance last season.
We believe that Rajon and Sebastian will make a hell of a tandem at point guard and that it doesn’t matter one but who starts, because both those guys are going to get a chance to finish games.
We believe that Gerald will edge out Tony Allen for minutes and that Allen will be moved during mid-season for another piece of the puzzle. We also have two words for Gerald: James Worthy, repeat after me Gerald: James Worthy.
We believe that Doc will grow as a coach, and begin to show some maturity in how he manages in game situations — mostly we believe this because for the first time in a long while there is some talent at the point guard position. (This is not a slam Delonte. Learning the point in the pros is a bold endeavour; one you were successful at. Learning the 1 will make you a better 2)
We believe that Danny Ainge may just be able to pull off a blockbuster — after all this is the year of Red right?
However, most of all we believe in the game.
Most of us here at Perkisabeast.com have been die hard scary Celtics fans our whole lives, we have bought the merchandise, studied the films, seen the game from every angle known to man and still we believe– as we do every year– that this team has a chance to be something special. We feel the same way we felt when we were kids watching Larry Bird and Robert Parish and Dennis Johnson.
We also believe that being optimistic does not make you an a “kool aid” drinker sychophant, as many of the many wasted megabytes of misanthropic and cynical projection on every last Celtics chat board (with some kind exceptions, mind you). Further, we don’t think it makes you a very savvy sports fan to be constantly pessimistic, or negative. In fact, if you can’t feel excited that the season is going to start well then why do you even bother?
Admittedly, we’ve been a little heavy on the video here at perkisabeast today, maybe its the somber mood around campe Celtics, or maybe its because we all hate this daylight savings thing. However, how could we pass up a video of Gnarls Barkley doing their hit song “Crazy” while dressed like they’re in Star Wars? Further, if anyone can think of anything cooler than a Wookie on the drums, we’d like to hear it.
