This is a diary of hate, a testament of loathing both of David Stern and myself. I hate David Stern because he is a Napoleonic megalomaniac, punch drunk on power, hell bent on his brand of NBA colonialism. His need to be the great messenger of this particularly shameful brand of info-tainment, or sports-ter-tainment is killing the very soul of this game. With each brush stroke of this arrogant false prophet the game suffers. He acts like he wants to protect the integrity of the game, but yet manipulates the rules like the players were just bit actors in his power play, the Pinocchio to his Gepeto.
He would rather bring basketball to China than save it in Boston. He would rather punish us like Job so that Oklahoma could get a team and a bona fide star in Kevin Durant.
But mostly, I hate myself for even thinking he would do the opposite. That David Stern would do the right thing and let us win this one, just one for the goddamn soul of the game and save it here in the home of basketball.
I stayed awake all last night muttering in my sleep, “Why is he saving basketball in the Pacific Northwest just to kill it in Boston?”

And it hit me this morning as I was talking to my Dad, who reminded me that the Pacific Rim was the “gateway to the east.” That’s when I realized why Stern did it to us again.

He did it for China, and Oklahoma City. He did it to have an NBA powerhouse in a geographically important area to his master plan of easten expansion. And, he did it to allow the Sonics to move out of Seattle (a truly loyal fan base) and start fresh in a shiny new arena in Oklahoma City. You don’t believe me? Just watch it happen. The Sonics are owned by Oklahoma City business man Clayton Bennet, who just so happens to be pimping the team all over the Midwest. This was a master stroke of machiavellian management conducted in the cruelest of manners.
And in Oden, basketball will once again be top news in the Pacific Rim, making the gateway to Stern’s beloved China a hot bed of basketball action.
My only question is, “Why wouldn’t you have them draft the Chinese kid Stern?” Why did you kill us?
He killed us because he could. We were bad boys. We lost a few games, maybe tanking some in a major way. But, only after Milwaukee pushed us to at the end of the season. Let’s look at the brass tacks here, we deserved this one. This season was an abomination. We lost 18-straight games and the team played hard, losing by slim margins with our three best players out. We lost our godfather in Red. We lost DJ. We nearly lost all self respect, and yet the fans kept coming and the team kept playing hard. Why didn’t he reward us for our perseverance, for our love, and our dedication.
Instead, he punished all of us who tanked, Memphis, Milwaukee, and us. Took it all away and killed two birds. He showed the Celtics he was still, and always will be, their daddy. And he figured a way to do it that made him and the NBA
