The 3rd Percentile - Lester “the Molester” Hudson

“The odds of Hudson making the Celtics as a 58th pick are minuscule - 3 percent, according to the team’s research - at least this opportunity is tangible for a natural scorer who finished second in the nation (to Davidson’s Stephen Curry) with 27.5 ppg last season.”

While a long-shot, the Beast-Lair sees big things in the future for Hudson. A lot of people are projecting him to be in Europe/Maine next season, but I have a feeling this kid can contribute towards #18. He’s saying all the right things right now, was the focus of a lot of defense/double-teams in college and seems to be putting the effort behind his words.

“I’ve been playing basketball all my life and it’s been hard growing up for me,” Hudson said. “I used to play at the playground, older guys pushing on me and make me play harder. I just want to go out and work hard like I’ve been working, go out and compete every day, work hard at practice.”

It may be disappointing to the Pruitt posse, but I see Hudson around a lot longer than Gabe at this point. Pure scorers were not a plethora on the bench last season and seeing how dramatically Gabe’s minutes diminished at the end of the season, this doesn’t seem to far off.

Here’s a bio from Bleacher Report:
“Hudson showed great proficiency as a baller at an early age. By the time he was 11 or 12 years old, he was playing with men much older, and more than holding his own.

He was skinny, but had fantastic handles and hops—meaning he could dribble and jump, for the uninitiated—and his instincts on the court were uncanny. He could find ways to score that were virtually unimaginable.

That’s where the nickname, “the Molester”, came from: He would take your dignity away on the court so completely, it was if he were committing some savage crime.”

….

So we now have a young man with only five years of organized basketball under his belt about to land in the NBA, at the age of 24, and you know what I think?

The Celtics got a steal.

Hudson is a true combo guard, with a scorer’s mentality yet good ability as a distributor. He also has a pro body: 6’2”, 190 chiseled pounds, and a freakish 6’9” wingspan.

He’s not the fastest, nor most athletic, guard in this draft, and his three-point stroke is average at best, but that’s never been the reason to have him around.

Hudson is just relentless. His deceptive strength allows him to overpower smaller guards, his quickness is overwhelming to larger guards, and his tenacity allows him to crash into the interior of the opposing defense, where it’s “pick your poison” time.

Collapse on Hudson, and he will find an open teammate. Leave him one-on-one, and it’s “and-one” time. Foul him, and he converts the free throws (86 percent in his UTM career).

Because of his determination, Hudson has become the exception that proves the rule: He is the pick-up king who overcame his own academic indifference to become a college graduate. He’s already overcome more in his life than most of us can imagine.”

Moby Swift - D.A.’s Never Ending Man-Crush Continues in Orlando

Robert “Moby” Swift’s name used to carry a lot of weight in the NBA. At one time he was mentioned in the same breath as Al Jefferson and had the Thundersonics been willing to include Moby with Ray/Baby, couldve taken Rondo from us.

Fortunately, those things never happened and darkness has blanketed Swift’s once bright future. But that doesnt mean Danny Ainge can’t finally be united with his man-crush. While still unsigned, look for Moby to be suiting up for the Green & White in Orlando next week.

Draft Discussion

“Lakers vs orlando. Looked like a german sherperd vs a poodle that’s ok the rotwieler celtics will b back in 2o10.’’ -Paul Pierce

Thursday’s Draft has come around quite quickly after the Bore-o-lympics known as the NBA finals, time to spark some discussion.

The Celtics have the #58 Overall Pick and Rumors have been abound about the C’s moving up. Of course Mr. Ainge wants none of that:

“We have nothing close to happening,’’ Ainge said. “I would guess that there would not be anything [on draft night]. We like the free agent market of veteran players much more than we like the draft.’’

Of course that means NOTHING!

Use the comments section for conjecture:

F*ck This, Don’t Make Us Beat You Down Danny

“So its a shitty draft, lets make a horrible move for a crappy #2 Pick that has no J and sacrifice our Defensive Captain at the same time!”

Is Chris Wallace secretly running both Memphis and Boston at the same time?

Thats about all the logic I see behind the latest rumor, hopefully its just another string along.

Yeah, lets get rid of the guy that carried the Defense on his back when KG went down, despite playing with guys more undersized than a Spud Webb, thats fucking genius!

If Ainge makes a move like this and we get Rubustio or Thablount, he better go hide in mormon country cause the beast lair will be coming.

Its Caucasian

Schwarzenegger beats Howard in first minute of first round.

Personally, I’d rather watch David Stern schedule a fight between Dwight Howard and Arnold Schwarzenegger than the finals, but since that is never gonna happen here some of Arnold’s best moments.

Reading the Tea Leaves

With speculation abound, its time the Beast Lair tosses their hat into the ring.

What we know:
KTAR reported the Celtics did some inquiring about Amare Stoudamire’s uncertain status with the Sun’s. The deal as reported was Ray and Rondo for Amare, Barbosa and the #14 overall Pick. They later rescinded some of the comments and mentioned Washington as a possible destination, but the numbers/players don’t work in a Wash/PHX deal.

The numbers do work in the proposed Boston/Phoenix deal, particularly in terms of PHX jettisoning some cash and an unhappy camper.

But what does this mean in Boston?
Are the negotiations for a Rondo extension not going where D.A. wants, thus other options are beginning to be explored?
Is this just a tactic to gauge Rondo’s real market value before contract discussions?

Ray Allen ($19.7 Mil), Brian Scalabrine ($3.4 Mil), Eddie House ($2.8 Mil (Player Option)), Tony Allen ($2.5 Mil) and JR Giddens ($1 mil) represent $29.4 Million Dollars in Expiring Salary for the 2010 Free Agency Market, that value will not be equaled by keeping these players (with the exception of Giddens who’s a long shot but could be a legit player).

The Amare deal would be contingent on the #14 pick and the player available at that spot. Say Ty Evans suddenly falls to #14 and the deal works out to Evans/Barbosa/Stoudamire, the C’s are happy campers.

Do we want to lose Rondo? Ab-so-lutely Not. But if it has to be done, so be it.

In a perfect world, what would we want to see? (if Rondo has to go)

How about Ray&Rondo for CP3&Peja?

The salaries work, New Orleans is DESPERATE to move either Peja or Ty Chandler and West/CP3 are the only chits they have. Common sense would dictate a Chandler/CP3 trade right? Rumor is that Ty’s turf toe is actually a lot riskier a proposition than one realizes. While he isnt too fazed by it now, one small tweak and he could be done forever. I don’t like Peja, but a few KG barks in his ear and he might be a bit more motivated!

Notes from the HoopGeek:A few comments. Glen Davis’ defense was absolutely horrible. Like Michael Redd 2004 defense. Paul Pierce, Kendrick Perkins, Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett all deserved places on the defensive teams. That Pierce still put up a 145 TEN+ while seeing double teams and not benefiting from the good floor spacing from teammates is beyond astonishing. Ray’s defense has regressed to his early Seattle days. It is obfuscated by being paired with Garnett, Perkins, Pierce, Rondo, Scalabrine and, believe it or not, Powe.
