From Alex on Celtic-Nation:
With Perkins, I don’t think people realize just how good he has been defensively this season. Garnett doesn’t do much of what he does without Perkins as his wingman. To wit, below is the effect on points per 100 possessions, both offensive and defensive, that Perkins has on Garnett’s game:
Kevin Garnett (w/ Perkins):
Team DRtg 94.25
Team OReb% 27.88%
Team DReb% 74.84%
Expected Win% .929
Kevin Garnett (w/o Perkins):
Team DRtg 102.23
Team OReb% 28.61%
Team DReb% 69.76%
Expected Win% .800
The Celtics are a very good team with Kevin Garnett. They are a great team with Garnett/Perkins. While Perkins still has things to iron out, he has been more important to the team’s success than all other players on the team not named Rondo, Garnett or Pierce, imo. Perkins is a B+ easily in my book. He has been absolutely fantastic supporting the three stars on the team - Rondo, Pierce and Garnett.
