Moment Of Truth? Pondering The Mysteries Of Faith…Who Will Step Up? And How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Doc

“A man with deep far-sightedness will survey both the beginning and the end of a situation and continually consider its every facet as important, Yo. So quit trippin.'’”
Oh great Sensei Perk, we seek the answers to tonight’s mystery. Will you answer these for us?
Who will control the paint? If we out rebound them, we will win. So far in this series, second chance points have made a huge difference. Cleveland is a big, plodding, and deliberate team that likes to work the clock and control the boards. We look to our sensei to have a big night tonight and not let Cleveland get gimme points.
Boobie-less Cavs. Will it hurt them, or help? Gibson’s ability to hit a clutch three pointer could very well have made a difference in a tight game. His absence will help the Celtics. However, a wounded animal is also the most dangerous. There is definite potential for the emergence of a no-name hero…See. Macdonald, Glenn. Who will it be on our team? Baby, Powe, Sam I Am????? Will Eddie House come off the bench to hit a huge three? One thing is for certain the Cavs are officially thin at the point.
Who will win the battle of the minds Doc has so far played even with both Mike Brown and Mike Woodson. That’s not a good sign. Who will have the one extra wrinkle tonight? What will our rotation be in crunch time? Will Doc trust the younger starters to win it for him?
Will KG step up in the fourth quarter? Has he been scared? Tired? Or worse, not a big game player? Either way, the final frames in road games have not been kind to KG. A big game tonight could silence a lot of the critics and bolster his confidence going into the really important rounds.
Will Ray Allen please report to the checkout line? The test of greatness is how you overcome adversity. All year he has been our elder statesman of the team, quietly keeping the guys on track while subjugating his ego. Can he regain his mid-season form, or will he keep pressing? We could really use a vintage game from Ray-Ray. Our advise, take it to the hole early and often, get to the stripe and find your rhythm.
In the land of the King of Hype, Will the Truth shall set us free? Will he or won’t he continue his stellar play from last game? Paul turned the switch in Game five, can he turn the corner in Game six? We say yes.
Loose balls, diving at me. Who will win the battle of the scrum? If we get the loose balls on the road, we win. The key to this game is no second chances.
Will we leave it all on the court? In order to reverse this losing trend on the road, the team will have to play with a real sense of urgency, bordering on desperation. We need to play this game like we’re down 2-3, not up 3-2. Will we be able to shut down the voice in our head that knows a game seven is at our house? Will every man commit his body to closing this out tonight?
Will Tommy be calling the game The fans, need the warm, reassuring voice of Tommy Heinsohn and Mike Gorman to feel comfortable. This past week of TNT and ABC has sucked. I need Tommy. Please Tommy, come on the road for this one.
Let’s Go Celtics

Love the Doc, Hate the Doc, Love the Doc, Hate the Doc.
End of the day, I gave Doc a free pass for this season, only because I knew when the playoffs came up he would worry the shit outta me. Now that he’s doing the same B.S. rotation stuff that I despise, his get out of Jail Free card has been rescinded.
I love Doc as a person, but after relegating Perk to the bench in game 4, he’s low on my list of favorite people.

That’s the mystery of Doc. His brilliance and stupidity live together in some sort of symbiotic relationship, whereby you can’t tell if he’s the smartest basketball mind in the world or the dumbest.

Truer words about Doc have never been spoken.
This banner on a Cavs Forum cracked me up:

On the whole, I like Doc. I think some of his statements are hypocritical but that can probably be said of many middle-managers.
Some things that don’t jive right with me, though:
1. Tells Perkins his role to play defense, rebound and support the stars. Which is fine. The thing is, when he is doing that role, he is not always supported by the ’stars’. To wit, Perkins sets a pick to free a teammate, both the picked and the help defender stay with Ray, Perkins rolls to the front of the tin and Ray forces up a contested shot from the double-team. Doc’s solution? Replace Perkins. We lose his defense and the offensive upgrade isn’t all that much (when weighed against the effect on the overall defense.)
2. Tells the media that Sam Cassell will play because he is a shot-maker. The last I checked, Eddie House was making shots all season long. Again, on the surface, it is fine. Then you realize that despite his limitations, Eddie’s effect on the team defense outweighs any slight offensive upgrade from Cassell. Additionally, the majority of Sam’s shots come from mid-range and isn’t providing much space for teammates to operate. Eddie’s shots do provide space and his defensive activity (he gets a lot more deflections than most people realize) is definitely missed.
3. I haven’t read any quotes on this but it bothers the shit out of me. Especially in the playoffs, Perkins is continuously paired with Ray Allen. I understand the need for additional defense when Ray is on the floor. Ok, that’s a given. As much as I am not Tony Allen’s number one fan, replacing Ray with Tony in some line-ups that still retained Perkins could seriously stymie opposing teams on the offensive end. I have joked in the past that Tony was Doc’s boy but if there was ever a time to have faith in Tony, now is it.
4. Doc allowing Ray Allen to be the playmaker. I understand the need/want to get Ray going. Ray is more talented than his role with the first unit, I fully understand that. That being said, taking the ball out of Rajon’s or Paul’s hands hurts the team. Allowing Ray to walk it up, hurts the entire offense. Please give the ball to Rajon, play at a quicker tempo and get some easy baskets!

This is the best Chris Matthews moment ever. This must be LawyerBoy

HoopsGeek, those are great points. I think also that Tony is a better passer than Ray Allen. Ray is by far the poorest passer of the starting five. I constantly see him looking off the roll in the pick and roll. This is even a point I brought up with Perk once.
“Perk,” I said. “Ray’s gotta look up on the pick and roll. You’re wide the fuck open.”
“I know,” he said, raising his eyebrows as if to say ‘thank god someone noticed.’
The point is that Doc doesn’t have respect for the big man game. I’d say we have the best corp of bigs in the playoffs right now and Doc refuses to play to this advantage. What if we had Perk, Leon, KG up front for a couple minutes with House and Posey. I think we should go bigger against Cleveland, not smaller.

best corp of bigs in the playoffs right now?
You must mean the best corp of bigs on teams that are still playing in their respective conference semi finals.
Detroit has no problem beating teams in their own gyms. How come the 66 win “best team ever” can’t squeek out one for themselves in the playoffs?
