For tonight at least, divided loyalties tear at the heart of the Beast Lair

Tonight the Celtics face off against the Timberwolves of Minnesota, in what is sure to be an emotional homecoming for Kevin Garnett. However, there is another drama at play tonight that has us titillated, and that is the chance to watch uber-beast and one of the beast lair’s most favorite dudes ever, Big Al Jefferson.
We have always been enormous Big Al fans. In fact, hanging in my closet is a jersey I bought in his rookie year. I had to have it special ordered for me, but it didn’t matter. I wanted to be the first kid..er, 28-year-old man — with a #8 Al Jefferson jersey. I got it on Christmas of 2004 and wore it to a New Year’s Eve party (that was awesome). Later, I got it signed by Big Al and Antoine Walker, who had by then traded with Jefferson so that he could have his original number back. I’m wearing it tonight. Unfortunately, I’m a little too fat for it and it makes me look a little like George Wendt in his softball jersey in the 1986 film Gung Ho, but who cares. I love Big Al. How much do I love him? Look at this article I wrote calling the Garnett trade the “worst in Celtics’ history”
Yeah, well. We all make mistakes.
But don’t think I’m alone in my pining. It was just recently that Perk said to me. “Who knows, maybe in six years, when this is all over, we could get him back.” And then he smiled in a way that let me know just how beastly that would be. So, for tonight at least, there’s some divided loyalties for me. On one hand, I hate to lose. But on the other, I couldn’t think of a better team to lose to.
Enjoy the game and go Big Al.

Yo perk thanks for including a link to that old “worst trade” piece. I tore yall a new one on that one. I especially like,
“Never mind Gerald Green, or Gomes, or Telfair – three guys who could develop into something very special..”
But a serious question. All these analysts and reporters have all this talk about how the C’s are sluggish and the offense has taken a step back. Clearly they dont have the same fire in every game mainly because they have less to prove and less urgency this year. But do you think Doc is pushing for a more relaxed and steady approach in order to pace themselves thru the regular season? Almost like conserving energy for the long run. Just curious to see what you guys think.
ps. Perks offensive game has been other worldy lately.
