Perk went under the knife to fix his shoulder…as per the Herald:

Kendrick Perkins also had the third shoulder surgery of his career today at New England Baptist Hospital, this time on the left shoulder the Celtics center strained during the NBA Finals against the Lakers.

Sadly the article also mentions that the Celtics, although they have spoken with him, in fact did NOT make an offer to Maggette.

Dealer Danny continues to amaze http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/02/dealer-danny-continues-to-amaze/ http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/02/dealer-danny-continues-to-amaze/#comments Wed, 02 Jul 2008 17:29:59 +0000 perkisabeast Uncategorized http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/02/dealer-danny-continues-to-amaze/ Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Pardon me for being crass but THIS is why I’m glad Danny Ainge is a mormon. While the rest of the team is knee deep in a bender that would make Mick and Keith blush, Danny sits chaste in Waltham, diligently working on building a team that can repeat as champions.

Don’t think for a moment Danny is satisfied with just one. As a player he saw first hand how greatness and failure bookend each other far too often. After all, think of the joy and adulation of capping the greatest season in Celtics history in June 1986, compared to the heartbreak of losing to the Lakers in 1987. Danny has seen it twice and I’m sure he has no desire to see it again. Think any of us would feel good if the Lakers managed to get back to the dance and beat us next year? Ugh, please, my heart sinks at the thought. All of this is the reason Danny works feverishly to reload this team. And the code word for the 08′-09′ seems to be athletic.

It’s no secret that the teams with superior athleticism gave the Celtics the most trouble during this championship run. Sometimes, it seemed like the mind was willing to run with the young bucks of Atlanta but the body just wasn’t able. The addition of Giddens and Walker seem to indicate that Danny wants to put a little more giddyup into the lineup, but now we are offering money to Corey Maggette? Well, well, well, who woulda thunk that was coming?

Personally, I love this move. Adding a player like Maggette in his prime, who seems poised to break out, is a no-brainer, even if it costs us James Posey. Look, I love Posey more than anyone, but I have some reservations about giving him four years. Maggette is 28 years old, he averaged 22 points off the bench and he can extend Ray Allen’s career. Losing Posey to the Lakers would hurt. Personally, I’d try and make sure he ended up in New Orleans if he was going to leave. However, make no mistake I want them both. Posey is a good player but Maggette could be a star. I might give up a little defense for 20-points off the bench every night. Also, who’s saying that Maggette can’t play defense?

Either way, Danny isn’t going to stand pat. He remembers the Celtics of 87′ were one player short of repeating, after Walton went down, and how Maxwell came up lame in 85′. With these moves Ainge is making sure that there will be no junior sky hooks in the Celtics near future.

It looks like splitsville for Tony and the Celtics http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/01/it-looks-like-splitsville-for-tony-and-the-celtics/ http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/01/it-looks-like-splitsville-for-tony-and-the-celtics/#comments Tue, 01 Jul 2008 14:58:09 +0000 perkisabeast Uncategorized http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/01/it-looks-like-splitsville-for-tony-and-the-celtics/

Well, if the writing wasn’t on the wall before it is now. Tony Allen is gone, as in see you later Sam, hasta la vista baby, goodnight and good luck.

The Celtics failed to offer Tony a qualifying offer yesterday, meaning he will be an unrestricted free agent. However, it was the drafting of JR Giddens that really signaled the end of the road for Tony. Giddens can probably out produce Tony for a third of the price and, let’s be honest, if the difference between keeping James Posey is Tony Allen, well, goodbye Tony.

However, don’t color us insensitive. We love Tony Allen, always have and always will, no matter what uniform he wears for the rest of his career. It all started back in 2004 when Tony wore a Larry Bird throwback to his intro press conference and carried through his scintillating rookie season. The problem is that that Tony has rarely shown his face in the past four years. There was the fight and subsequent knee injury (Will Bynum may still hate Tony for ruining his career) in the summer of 05′, the tease of greatness in 06′ and then another serious knee injury that essentially killed his career in Boston. Tony never really recovered this season, seemingly lost in his own fear of reinjuring his knee. You could read it on his face too. I remember watching him essentially ask out of a blowout game against Denver early in the season and seeing Doc’s face. You could read the disgust on it. “Keep playing” he was saying, while Tony pouted and loafed up and down the court, until he realized the coach had no intentions of sitting him. I knew then that Tony was done in Boston. True, there was a couple of great games, but overall this season was a complete wash for Tony and keeping him around is just too risky. We can’t afford another season without a good backup for Ray. Tony has no one to blame but himself.

There is bit of sadness about seeing Tony go. He was a member of the vaunted 2004 draft class that really helped turn this franchise around. After all, where are we today had Danny not gotten Delonte West and Al Jefferson? It was Danny’s first home run draft and launched a very surprising 49-win team in 04-05′. I will always have fond memories of that draft class and what Danny was able to do with a 15 pick and the 24th, and 25th pick. The sad part is that Tony had the talent to be the best of all his draft mates, he just couldn’t get over the mental hurdles.

So, best of luck to Tony and we will always think fondly of him.

Posey Opts Out http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/01/posey-opts-out/ http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/01/posey-opts-out/#comments Tue, 01 Jul 2008 03:05:02 +0000 perkisabeast Uncategorized http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/07/01/posey-opts-out/ And deservedly so. After a spectacular season (and a beastly finals) with the C’s, the man decided he will test the free agent waters. Worry not, however, as Ainge has decided to offer him a nice contract (I would guess the MLE or more), and clearly stated that he will do whatever possible to make him stay.

Sunday Morning’s Rumor Mill http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/06/29/sunday-mornings-rumor-mill/ http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/06/29/sunday-mornings-rumor-mill/#comments Sun, 29 Jun 2008 16:02:50 +0000 perkisabeast Uncategorized http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/06/29/sunday-mornings-rumor-mill/

The New York Daily News reports that if Jamaal Tinsley cannot be traded soon, the Pacers will buy out the 30 year old Tinsley’s contract, which still has 3 years with plus 21 million.

Donnie Walsh says that if the Knicks aquire another point guard, Stephon “Youthier” Marbury will be released. Adding on to the burning pile of shit that is the New York Knicks franchise, there seems to be more unrest in the locker room as a anonymous vetern of the team says about Marbury “It’s the same story every year, He’s doing this, he’s doing that, he’s running hills, he’s lifting weights. And then on the first day of training camp he can’t even finish some of the drills.” It doesnt look like anybody in the big apple is going to miss Marbury, although if he could get his shit together i wouldnt mind having him on the c’s.

Possible trade between Denver and Chicago could send Camby to Chicago and Hinrich to Denver.

Pheonix thinking about shipping out Barbosa

And on the Posey front “Players don’t leave a team after they won a championship with them,” said an NBA general manager

More on JR Giddens and Billy Walker http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/06/27/more-on-jr-giddens-and-billy-walker/ http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/06/27/more-on-jr-giddens-and-billy-walker/#comments Fri, 27 Jun 2008 13:19:12 +0000 perkisabeast Uncategorized http://perkisabeast.com/blog/2008/06/27/more-on-jr-giddens-and-billy-walker/

First off, I knew nothing about him. In fact, I was pretty upset that the Celtics passed on Chris Douglas-Roberts. However, last year I was pretty pissed of about draft night and look how that turned out. Here’s a few more video clips of JR and some reading material . From what I gather, JR posses an absolutely disgusting 7-foot wingspan, super human athleticism, led his team in points, boards and blocked shots and would have been a lot higher in the draft had he not gotten stabbed ina bar fight while t Kansas. Wow, I expect we will soon grow to love this kid around here. Don’t ever say Danny doesn’t take risks but this one could pay off.

Now, Billy Walker I love. I love this pick. Two years ago, Walker is a top five player, no doubt about it. He’s the former running mate of OJ Mayo in high school and Michael Beasley in college. He is tough, athletic, talented and a bit of a bulldog on the court. This is a really nice second round steal for the Celtics. If these picks pan out we just got a whole lot more athletic at the wing spot (goodbye Tony). Walker’s had some knee issues, but so did Leon Powe and look how he turned out. We could be talking about these two picks like Dallas a couple years ago with Marquis Daniels and Josh Howard.

Check the measurements on the newest Celtic JR Giddens: His physique is strikingly similar to that of Dwyane Wade (wingspan, height, reach, body fat, even bench press) Not sure what this all means, but…

Thank you
